Discover historical sites, admire breath-taking panoramas, and taste delicious wine!
You will stop in Herculaneum, an ancient Roman town allegedly founded by Hercules. This archaeological site is one of the few places in the world that can be seen in almost its original conditions, as it was buried deeply by a thick layer of hot mud, preserving everything beneath. You will find thousands of everyday objects, from price lists outside of the shops, to beds, doors and even food.
You will stop at Mt. Vesuvius and have the chance to hike up to the crater. The cone stands roughly 4200 feet high, but no matter how far you will venture up, you will be able to see the entire Gulf of Naples, from Sorrento to Capo Miseno, to Procida & Ischia. Take the opportunity to trek up to the top and peer into its enormous crater!
You will stop in one of the vineyards located on the slopes of Vesuvius where the wine making tradition dates back to the Romans whose traditional product was the “Vesuvinum”. You will taste some of the locally produced wines (usually the tasting includes four different kinds of wine) accompanied by a light lunch. Lunch will include some starters that can vary from bruschette, cured meats or vegetables, a main dish which usually includes a type of pasta with the local tomato sauce and either a dessert or a cheese tasting, depending on location and availability.

This was a fantastic tour option for 8 of us off the Norwegian Epic, organized by a fellow Roll Call member. We were met on time by Oliver who was piloting a 9 passenger Mercedes van. The van was comfortable, although the best shocks in the world are no match to some of Italy's worst roads. The guide was a marvel. His knowledge of local history, geography and politics was incredible and he kept up a running commentary while pausing occasionally for questions. He was able to find parking near the attractions in both cities. Best of all, he gave us options to finish the day. A vote was taken and we agreed to have lunch, a tour and tasting at a nearby family run winery. It was a highlight of the trip for us. I unconditionally recommend this company and would use the again without hesitation.
