What is the currency used in Italy, and where can I exchange money?

The currency in Italy is the Euro (€). You can exchange money at banks, exchange offices ("cambio"), or ATMs. Banks offer competitive rates but may have higher fees. Exchange offices are convenient but compare rates. ATMs are widespread with favorable rates, but watch for bank fees. Major credit cards are accepted, but carrying cash for small purchases and emergencies is advisable.

What are hotel taxes in Italy, how do I pay them and how much are they?

In Italy, hotel taxes, known as "tassa di soggiorno" or tourist tax, are fees charged by local municipalities on guests at accommodations like hotels, B&Bs, and vacation rentals. These taxes vary based on location and accommodation type, usually calculated per person per night. They're not typically included in the room rate and are paid directly to the provider upon check-out, often in cash or added to the final bill. Exemptions may apply for certain guests, such as children or those with disabilities.

Do I need a Visa to travel to Italy?

Whether you need a visa to travel to Italy depends on your nationality and the purpose of your visit. Citizens of many countries, including those in the European Union, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, can enter Italy visa-free for short stays as tourists

How do you greet people in Italy?

Greetings in Italy are typically warm and involve a handshake. It's common to greet people with a friendly "Ciao" or "Buongiorno" (good morning) during the day. In the evening or when meeting someone for the first time, "Buonasera" (good evening) is more appropriate. Italians value politeness, so don't forget to use "Grazie" (thank you) and "Per favore" (please) when appropriate.

What are the opening hours for shops and businesses?

In Italy, traditional business hours are observed, with most shops opening around 9:00 am and closing for a few hours in the afternoon (usually between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm). Shops then reopen at around 5:30 pm. Some smaller businesses may close on Sundays, so it's advisable to plan shopping accordingly.

Are credit cards widely accepted in Italy?

While major credit cards are generally accepted, it's advisable to carry some cash, especially in smaller establishments. Notify your bank of your travel dates to avoid any issues with card transactions.

How do gratuities work in Italy?

Gratuities are not mandatory and never included, but if you've been pleased with the service, it's customary to show appreciation, and workers are very thankful. Generally speaking, gratuities can be 100€ full day guides, 50€ half/partial day guides, driver 75-150€ on full day use of vehicle, skipper 150-250€ for full day tours, hotel porters 3-5€ per bag, restaurants 10-20% on the total, guest ambassadors, based on service received, 1-5% on rhe total amount. Gratuities in Italy run anywhere from 10-25% depending on the services and your satisfaction with them.

What should I wear if I want to visit some religious sites?

If you intend to visit religious sites, please have knees and shoulders covered (both men and women).

My wife and I would like to thank JB Limo for our extensive 21 day tour thru Italy from Amalfi coast to Venice. Rossella was a delight to work with as we planned our vacation. With our input, she designed our entire trip from hotels, individual stops, guides, and private driver. Thanks to Rossella's planning and Luca, our private driver, the experience was magical and stress free. They made sure everything went smoothly every step of the way and handled any unanticipated issues that arose. The guides provided were exceptional. A few worthy of mention were Paolo in Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Capri; Rita in Rome; Francesca in Florence; Christian in Cinque Terre; Esther in Milan; and Igor in Venice. A few of the highlights included the private boat excursion down the Amalfi coast, private boat to Capri and our visit to Osteria di Passignano winery in Tuscany which included one of our favorite meals. This is our third time using JB Limo services when visiting Italy and they have always exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend their services.

After utilizing Joe Banana Limos & Travel for several cruise port tours, we decided to plan a longer trip with them. So, along with another couple, we booked a 15-day tour of Southern Italy. This was a wise decision since this trip was completely amazing! Our Guest Ambassador Cindy communicated with us on a regular basis and transformed our travel preferences into a custom itinerary. Her choice of hotels, guides, driver, and experiences were all spectacular. Equally as important, Cindy provided timely updates on COVID conditions and protocols in Italy. Massimo, our driver, was more like a family friend than just our chauffeur. He was punctual, friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to please. Massimo went above and beyond responding to our every wish and need. For example, locating a store where a bottle of bourbon could be purchased, accompanying and translating for one of us at a hair salon, and identifying restaurants featuring local cuisine such as donkey meat. However, his best attribute was his commitment to driving safely. Our itinerary included visits to popular tourist sites, as well as stops in many small, quaint, and charming towns but it was the unique experiences that made our trip magical. We enjoyed our stays in a cave hotel in Matera and the two-nights in an Ostuni masseria which was highlighted by a six-course authentic Pugliese dinner. Our group of four attended an olive oil tasting and cooking class in which we made a variety of pastas and focaccia that were included in our fantastic Italian lunch; on another day we visited an Amalfi coast lemon grove where we made limoncello and were treated to another “light” lunch. Imagine our surprise when the scheduled boat tours around and to the islands of Ischia and Capri were on Joe Banana’s private boat with a skipper who knew the best spots for photos. Our three tour guides (Amy, Tiziana, and Paola) were friendly, informative, spoke English, and made our sight-seeing stops interesting and meaningful. Having local people accompany us made our trip into a true adventure. We highly recommend Joe Banana Limos & Travel for travelers desiring to visit Italy. We are already planning more trips with Joe Banana to areas of this beautiful country and we will definitely request Massimo to be our driver again.

The pickup was waiting for us when we arrived at the airport. I was in constant communication with their dispatchers through Whatsapp. They monitored my flight, and when it was delayed adjusted for me and texted to confirm. The car was clean, the driver was super polite, spoke English well, and was able to point out tons of interesting stuff along the way. Easily one of the best transfer experiences i've ever had.

When our Italy vacation was in the planning stage two years ago, I contacted Joe Bananas to inquire on excursions. We were arriving via cruise ship in Livorno, Civitavecchia, and Sorrento. We chose to visit San Gimignano, and the Chianti Region, a city tour of Rome, and a private boat tour of the Amalfi Coast. I can not say enough praise for this company, and their representative the took care of our "bookkeeping", Rosella. Each excursion showed us the best of the area. The vehicles were comfortable, and clean. The drivers, and Skipper were all prompt, and a joy to be around. We saw so much, and took away memories that will clearly last a lifetime. There was constant communication during the months of preparation. Rosella took care of me, and the group of 8 who were traveling. Look no further when making your travel plans for Italy. Joe Bananas takes care of every detail!

This is my second time using Joe Banana's Service, first was 3 years ago on a trip with my girlfriends and this time around with my sister and nieces was equally exceptional. Our transfers to and from Naples to Sorrento were great. Our pick up driver Chiro was also our driver for the Amalfi Coast tour and his knowledge of the area was amazing, he recommended some great lunch and shopping spots and we really enjoyed our tour with him. Our boat trip to Capri was also fantastic, my nieces were having such great time cruising along and swimming we opted for a quick lunch by the water on Capri and back to the boat. Our captain Salvatore provided us snacks and Proseco and kept us entertained.

"I had the absolute pleasure of using Joe Banana’s limo services for my recent trip to Italy. We were 4 adults including my 70 year old father & uncle, cousin and me. The customer service and communication from the moment I emailed them initially months ago while planning my trip to any changes I needed while in Italy was OUTSTANDING. Marianna and Mariapaola were incredible. Always professional, pleasant and accommodating. Our private driver Nunzio knew we had time to spare before our train departure and took us to a family owned vineyard/restaurant, Sorrentino, in a city at the base of Mt Vesuvius. His humor, insight and driving skills were great! We also had a private 8 hour 40ft boat tour leaving the port of Sorrento to the Amalfi Coast including stops to swim & snorkel in the beautiful Mediterranean Sea, visit Positano and Amalfi and had an awesome lunch at a non touristy beachside town. Roberto was our captain and he could not be more accommodating to our older parents. His driving skills, knowledge of the sea and history of Italy were outstanding. We all said that this day spent on the sea with Roberto was the highlight of our trip. Don’t hesitate to use this company for your transfer needs and boat tours while in Italy! Grazie mille!!!"

"We actually did not get to do this tour, as it was the first day of the pandemic shutdown. However, the driver did a great job making the best of the situation with a drive to Sorrento and around Naples. The company also refunded us a fair amount since the trip had to be cancelled. Wish we could have done the full tour, but everything worked out pretty well in the end"

Joe Bananas were excellent from the start. Cindy was extremely helpful with planning the perfect itinerary for our time on the Amalfi Coast. Our driver Massimo was a fantastic tour guide and taught us about the region’s rich culture and history. He was understanding of our needs and went above and beyond to make it a holiday to remember, even offering to take photos and suggest restaurants. Thank you Massimo and Cindy! From Max and Sophie

his is the 3rd time we have used Joe Bananas and we were again blown away by their service. We had just one day this time in Rome and were with people who had never been so we knew we had to do the usual Vatican, Colosseum, Trevi fountain etc which we did not mind. But in comes Jose!!! Jose is without a doubt the best kept secret of Rome, as he said "you've not seen Rome until you've done it the Jose way"!! We did get to see all the usual sights but he took us to some total surprises too. Not going to give it away but if you go to Rome and want to see the real Rome from every wonderful vantage point, book Joe Bananas and ask for Jose! Mention to him that you read this review and ask him to take you to the keyhole!! It blew me away!!

Our driver Luigi picked up our family from our apartment in Positano. We discussed with Luigi various areas on the Amalfi Coast and he came up with a Fabulous plan for our day trip. We drove through Praiano and made stops in Ravello and then Amalfi Town. Luigi was so very knowledgable about the area and pointed out various locations, stopped at the most beautiful spots for photo opportunities, gave recommendations for lunch and even a ceramics store in Ravello that had beautiful designs at reasonable prices. He even was able to recommend places to eat and visit in Florence which was the next leg of our vacation. He skillfully navigated the narrow streets of the Amalfi coast weaving through tour buses, taxis and scooters. The best part of our time with Luigi? He was able to keep our 18 y.o daughter and our 20 y.o. son interested and entertained for the whole day!! (Not an easy task!) Thank you to Luigi and Joe Banana Tours for an unforgettable fabulous day!!

We took a 21 day private tour of Italy. Everything was perfectly planed and executed: We have traveled the world using tours from A&K and Tauck. The Joe Banana's Tour was better than both. Our travel coordinator Milena and our driver Rafaela were both professional and personable. We were well taken care of for the whole 21 day trip. We would highly recommend them to our family and friends.

My wife and I had a personal driver tour of Italy for a once in a lifetime adventure, and Joe Banana's did not disappoint. Our trip included Rome, Naples, the Amalfi Coast, Assisi, Venice, Florence, and Cinque Terre. We had private tours of Rome, Venice, Florence, and Cinque Terre. Our driver was engaging and entertaining as we drove from place to place. We had a private tour of a cheese factory and a cooking class, but the highlight was a private tour of a family run balsamic vinaigrette that included a meal up in the hillside. From working with their staff, to the all the details they took care of, we would highly recommend using this company for your Italian Tour needs.

I highly recommend Joe Banana and his crew for any of your vacation needs in Italy! We booked a 13 day tour with them and it was fantastic. From our first contact with Melana our entire trip was handled without us having to worry. She planned the perfect vacation for the 6 of us. All of our local tour guides were phenomenal and offered the best recommendations. Our driver Giuseppe was great and went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of. Wouldn't hesitate to book another trip with them!
