Pisa & Florence

Code: JLAS004

One of Joe Banana's drivers will meet you at the port of La Spezia.  You will need to take the shuttle from the cruise ship to the parking lot where our driver will be waiting for you, holding a sign with your name on it.

Your day will then begin with a little over a one hour chauffeured drive along a picturesque road to Pisa. This city is one of the symbols of Italy, as it is home to the famous Leaning Tower.

You will drive along the Arno river and discover the city including the University area where Galileo studied before stopping in MIRACLES SQUARE to view the Leaning Tower, Duomo, and Battistero.

Afterwards you will stop to view the beautiful hills overlooking the city before driving one hour to Florence. When you arrive in Florence, you will be accompanied to the Accademia where the original David by Michelangelo is located (we will make a booking for you to avoid the queues!).

Then you will go to the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore, the Duomo of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Florence. This cathedral was the third to be built in Florence and was the largest in Europe with enough space for 30,000 people. It is famous for its high, octagonal-ribbed dome, Brunelleschi's most famous masterpiece. Afterwards you will go to the Battistero with its famous bronze gates, before coming to the Basilica di Santa Croce where Michelangelo, Galileo, Machiavelli, and Rossini are all buried.

Then you will transition to the Old Bridge area, with its Renaissance palaces and medieval roads. You will have the opportunity to stop in some of the workshops to visit the local craftsmen at work.

At some point,we will stop for lunch in a typical restaurant, or grab a quick bite to eat on the way and also do some shopping if you wish. You will have about one hour to shop for leather, gold, Tuscany pottery, shoes, water colors, or other Florentine treasures.

If we start our day at 8.00/8.30 am, we will return to the ship by 5.00/5.30 pm.

Please note the following itinerary is traffic dependent and we reserve the right to change the order in which we visit the two towns:

8:00 am   Pick up from La Spezia port, drive to Pisa

9:20 am   Arrive in Pisa, have about 1 hour to explore the area. If you choose to climb the tower, this will take about 2 hours and the itinerary would be adjusted accordingly.

10:00 am   Leave Pisa, drive to Florence

11:30 am   Arrive in Florence, have about 3.5 hours to explore the area.

3:00 pm    Leave Florence, drive back to La Spezia port

5:00 pm    Arrive at La Spezia port

Important! We wish to point out that considering the amount of driving involved with this tour, our suggestion would be to only stop in Pisa briefly on the way back to the port in order to make the most out of your time in Florence, which will otherwise feel extremely rushed.
