Pisa, Lucca & Forte dei Marmi

Code: JLAS006

One of Joe Banana's English speaking drivers will meet you at the port of La Spezia, he'll be waiting for you in the parking lot where the cruise ship courtesy shuttle will drop you off, holding a sign with your name on it.

Your shore excursion will start with a little more than a one hour drive to the first of these twin historic towns: Pisa. A Roman colony from the 2nd century B.C., a naval and commercial port, Pisa became a maritime republic in the Middle Ages, rivaling Genova, Amalfi and Venice.  Your private driver/guide will take you to Campo dei Miracoli, a large, grassy piazza containing Pisa's cathedral, the baptistery, the cemetery and Pisa's most famous landmark, the Leaning Tower. You will have time to explore this beautiful square and admire the amazing architecture.

After Pisa, we will continue on to Lucca, the birthplace of composer Giacomo Puccini. Lucca, one of the most charming of Tuscany's provincial capitals, is set inside a ring of well-preserved Renaissance walls. The wall has a path along the top that is wide enough to hold small parks!

Like most cities in Italy, Lucca still shows Roman roots and style. Its defensive walls are perfectly preserved and once you've entered you'll feel that you've returned to the past.

Lucca is a MUST see city, filled with many characteristic shops and restaurants. You can take time to enjoy an authentic meal at a local restaurant, explore the area by foot or even choose to rent bicycles from one of the local shops and take a leisurely ride around the area. Whatever you choose to do, you will enjoy your time here.

After Lucca, we will drive to the beautiful beach area of Forte dei Marmi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forte_dei_Marmi). Here you will have about 2 hours to enjoy this area, established as a highly desirable vacation destination for prominent families residing in northern Italy during the 18th and 19th centuries. The allure of the sea’s beauty continues to draw people to this seaside town today.

After this great excursion we'll drive back to the ship.
