Combine history and good wine in this fantastic experience directly from the gangway of your cruise ship!

You will have time to visit Pompeii, one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. The dramatic eruption of Mt.Vesuvius on August 24, 79 A.D. destroyed this flourishing city but also preserved it under ash and rocks, giving present-day visitors the chance to walk around millennia old streets and visit the remains of old houses, temples, shops, cafes, amphitheatres, and even a brothel.

You will stop at Mt. Vesuvius and enjoy a short hike uphill in order to reach the crater. The cone stands roughly 4200 feet high, but no matter how far you will venture up, you will be able to see the breathtaking panorama of the entire Gulf of Naples, from Sorrento to Capo Miseno, to Procida & Ischia.

You will visit one of the vineyards located on the slopes of Vesuvius where the wine making tradition dates back to the Romans. You will taste some of the locally produced wines (usually the tasting includes 4 different kinds of wine) accompanied by a light lunch. Lunch will include some starters that can vary from bruschette, cured meats or vegetables, a main dish which usually includes a type of pasta with the local tomato sauce and either a dessert or a cheese tasting, depending on location and availability.

Please Note: Entrance fees to Mt. Vesuvius must to be purchased ahed of time

We scheduled this full day tour not knowing it would be the perfect way to see it all! Our driver, Max, met us at our hotel in Sorrento promptly, in a beautifully clean Mercedes SUV. Max was with us all day, taking is to Pompeii, then our hike atop Mt. Vesuvius and then the grand finale at the vineyard. We can’t say enough about Max. While I took cat-naps from place to place, my husband and Max shared easy conversation (as if they have been life-long friends.) We were matched with a really great tour guide at Pompeii whose name was Paolo, and we really enjoyed his tour. It was a crowded Good Friday day, so Paolo skirted us around the vast ruins, helping us see the highlights while not standing in the throws of people. I highly recommend a private tour like this, just for that reason. Our hike was a definite hike, but well worth the incline. I had read other reviews, so decided to bring our hiking poles which was a good decision on my part. Not so much going up, but coming down so you don’t slide on the volcanic gravel bits. Don’t be worried about the hike because you can go as far as you wish. Max is waiting for you at the bottom, what ever time you return. The winery was delightful. Yummy wines and local food. They even modified the food for my husband’s food allergies. (Thank you!) Then back to our hotel in Sorrento. So pleasant, easy, relaxed. Love it! Highly recommend this company, especially Max!~

This was my second time to Pompeii, but my husbands first. The tour guide was very friendly and provided information to the group. We hit all the main highlights and was a good tour. The highlight of this tour however is the wine tasting. We went to Sorrentino Vineyards and loved every minute we were there. The food was delicious and the wine was spectacular. We are so glad we went.

Wear really good walking shoes as the streets are very uneven and there are grooves from chariots. Our guide was knowledgeable and informative. This would be a very difficult tour to do with a wheelchair or a stroller. The history of Pompeii is fascinating. The lunch was paired with 7 different wines and the food and view were magnificent. This is a family owned winery that goes back generations.
