Sorrento & The Amalfi Coast (Positano, Amalfi)

Code: JSAL013

One of Joe Banana's drivers will meet you at the port of Salerno. He will wait for you in front of the gangway of your cruise ship, holding a sign with your name on it.

This shore excursion will begin as we drive by Salerno, during which time your driver will share information with you about the area. To reach Sorrento, this well known resort town on the Mediterranean Sea, we will drive along the coastal road to its furthest point where spectacular views of the entire bay of Naples and the Island of Capri are revealed as the Amalfi coast road emerges from over the mountain cliff.

Then we will stop right in the main square of Sorrento where you can have one hour or more to explore the historical district, the alleyways for souvenir shopping, or just sit at a cafe and enjoy the beauty of the sea. Sorrento is a major shopping centre for the local people as well as tourists, with many shops normally open all day, every day in the summer.

After Sorrento, we are off to the dramatic Amalfi Coast, where we will find ourselves driving down-hill directly through Positano. We will descend down the winding one-way road, passing by many picturesque houses and shops, ultimately arriving in the heart of the town, at “Piazza dei Mulini”. This is the last point accessible by car so we will park our car and walk downtown where all the streets lead to the waterfront.

Here you will have about one hour or more to discover this magnificent village denominated "The Jewel of The Amalfi Coast”. Positano has many unique things to see: the cathedral, ceramic shops, lemons, hand-made shoes and, of course, "Positano fashion”.

Your driver will be happy to suggest a location here for lunch based on your preferences.

Back on the main Amalfi coast road and leaving Positano the coastal road begins and runs through the fishing villages of Praiano, Furore and Conca dei Marini, and continues until it finally reaches the busy square of Amalfi (Piazza del Duomo) which is situated on the seafront.

In front of the port of Amalfi, there is the one and only bus station along the coast and the shopping area lies just behind this. If you would like to steep yourself in Amalfi's history there are some interesting sites to explore. Two of the most spectacular sites are the cathedral situated along the coast and the paper mill museum. Behind the square lies the main shopping street of Amalfi, that terminates at the highest and farthest point of the town. Along the pedestrian street are various bars and cafés, not to mention the many shops selling limoncello, casual clothing, swimwear, gifts, basic groceries, and of course, ceramics.

After a day on this famous coastline, we will drive back to the ship.

If we start our tour at 8.00/8.30am we'll be back at ship by 5.00/5.30pm.
