Wine Tasting in Campania Region

Code: JSAL014

One of Joe Banana's English speaking drivers will meet you at the port of Salerno. He will be waiting for you at the gangway of the cruise ship, holding a sign with your name on it.

The wine region of Campania is renowned as the land of great noble wines and this shore excursion allows access into the main wine cellars where the following three wines are produced:

Greco di Tufo: an aristocratic wine that was first introduced by the Greeks from Thessaly. It is straw-colored, golden yellow and has a pleasing and characteristic aroma with dry harmonious taste which goes well with all dishes.

Fiano: an antique wine from the Latin "vitis apiana" (as it attracts bees).  It is very aromatic and can also be served as an aperitif. Yellow-straw in color, it has an intense yet pleasant aroma and is dry in taste (similar to toasted hazelnuts). It goes well with all fish based dishes.

Tauràsi: considered to be one of the best "reds" in Italy, it was the first in Campania to be awarded the prestigious DOCG. Its ruby, burgundy color acquires orange reflections with aging.  It has a pleasing aroma and a dry and aromatic taste which goes well with lasagna, game, roasts, mushrooms and strong or seasoned cheeses.

The first of these wineries is Mastroberardino, where the famous Villa dei misteri (a Pompeian IGT) wine is produced. Created from the harvest of three different types of grapes grown from the fertile soil of Pompeii, Piedirosso, Sciascinoso, and Aglianico, this wine is ready for consumption after an aging process of 18 months (12 months in barriques, followed by 6 months in bottles).

The second winery we will visit is Feudi di San Gregorio, deemed “a young company in a land of great traditions” as they are promoting the growth of the areas vineyards while protecting the traditions of the Mediterranean flavors in Southern Italy.  You will have the opportunity to taste two of their products which include Greco di Tufo and Fiano di Avellino.

This tour also includes a light lunch in one of the wineries.

After this beautiful tour we'll drive back to the port in Salerno which is about 1 hour away.
