One of Joe Banana’s English speaking drivers will meet you at the port in Sorrento. He will be holding a sign with your name on it.
This shore excursion will begin with about a one hour drive directly to Naples Archeological museum. Here you can have about 1.5 hours to visit one of the most important archeological museums in the world.
We'll meet back outside the museum and after a short drive, our next stop will be Ercolano (Herculaneum). An ancient summer high class resort town during the Roman time, it has also become an important stop for those tourists wishing to steep themselves in history. Destroyed and buried in ashes, together with Pompeii, by the eruption of the volcano Vesuvius in 79 A.D., Herculaneum also offers a variety of beautiful scenery and invaluable arts. Strangely, excavations began by accident in 1709 when some workers were digging a well - they discovered a wall, obviously old and out of site for hundreds of years, which was later found to be one of the stages of the ancient theatre.
Later, there were many human skeletons uncovered at the ancient shoreline, suggesting that numerous inhabitants attempted to escape by sea, but perished when mountains collapsed into rivers of lava and volcanic gases were released.
We'll meet back again outside the ruins and from there we'll drive about 30 minutes to Pompeii. In Pompeii you will have the opportunity to tour one of the most important archeological sites in the world!
Either a licensed guide can be arranged ahead of time (additional cost) or audio guides can be rented on-site, with voice recordings in many languages. However you choose to explore this UNESCO World Heritage Site, you will be in awe as you see the remnants of this 1st century city which offer some insight into the Roman life that came to a premature stop here on 24 August AD 79.
After this day rich in Roman history, we will drive about 45 minutes back to the port in Sorrento.

In the very rare event that there is an internal assembly or strike in any of the archaeological sites, unfortunately they usually do not advise of this in advance, in which case Pompeii and Herculaneum could be substituted with time in Sorrento and/or Positano.
Please note that since Pompeii is a popular area for tourists, we strongly recommend being cautious of your belongings and leave valuables at your hotel! We would also advise that you take plenty of water, especially in the summer months and ensure you are either well covered or well slathered in sun cream as there is very little shade in which to escape the sun.
