From small squares to expansive views over the lake, this is a fantastic place to get away from the chaos of Rome. |
day 3 | Day tour in Ariccia in the Castelli Romani, the town most visited by Romans on a steamy summer weekend. They’re drawn there to eat the town’s famous porchetta in a fresh environment. Ariccia porchetta is a spit-roasted pig, always female, that’s seasoned with fragrant herbs… and it IS delicious. Take a walk around Ariccia’s pretty historical centre. Most of it was redesigned by Bernini, including the 16th Century Palazzo Chigi, baroque main piazza, and the church of Santa Maria dell’Assunzione. Visit the beautiful Nemi Lake. |
day 4 | You will visit Tuscania, an ancient town allegedly founded by Tusco, son of Hercules, famous for its medieval walls and towers, and for the Etruscan necropolis. Do not miss a visit to Santa Maria Maggiore church, half-Christian and half-Etruscan, where the sacred and profane blend perfectly. You will stop at Lake Bracciano, the second largest of Lazio’s volcanic lakes. There you will have a chance to visit the “Castle on the Lake”, a medieval castle which dates back to the 10th Century, or just take a relaxing stroll along the clean shores of the lake. You will reach Cerveteri, home to a Unesco World Heritage Site, the Etruscan Necropoli in Banditaccia, dating back to IX century B.C. and visit what used to be one of the most important commercial centres in the Etruscan time. |
day 5 | Check-out from the hotel. Your driver will transfer you from Castel Gandolfo area to Termoli. You will stop in Cassino on the way and you will have time to visit one of the Europe’s oldest monasteries, the Abbazia di Montecassino, founded in the 6th century by Saint Benedict, still a working monastery and pilgrimage site today. This town is also tragically famous as it saw some of the fiercest fighting the Italian campaign during World War II in 1944. You will have the chance to visit the Cassino War Cemetery and the Polish Military Cemetery where thousands of servicemen, many of them unidentified, were laid to rest. day 6 | Visit Termoli old town built within a medieval castle. You can admire the castle towers, visit the Cathedral in Piazza Duomo where you can also get a refreshing gelato, tour Largo Tommaso Giannelli and explore the many narrow streets.
