#JLIV007# Pisa, Lucca & Forte dei Marmi

One of Joe Banana's English speaking drivers will meet you at the port in Livorno. He’ll be waiting for you at the gangway of your cruise ship, holding a sign with your name on it.

Your shore excursion will then begin as your private driver chauffeurs you to the first of these twin historic towns: Pisa.  A Roman colony from the 2nd century B.C., a naval and commercial port, Pisa became a maritime republic in the Middle Ages, rivaling Genova, Amalfi and Venice.  Your private driver/guide will take you to Campo dei Miracoli, a large, grassy piazza containing Pisa's cathedral, the baptistery, the cemetery and Pisa's most famous landmark, the Leaning Tower. You will have time to explore this beautiful square and admire the amazing architecture.

After this, you will continue on to the famous fortress town of Lucca, located in the northern part of Tuscany. Lucca, one of the most charming of Tuscany's provincial capitals, is set inside a ring of well-preserved Renaissance walls. Amazingly, the wall has a path along the top that is wide enough to hold small parks.

Lucca is a MUST see city during your time in Italy due to its many beautiful churches, piazzas, and characteristic shops and restaurants. Like most cities in Italy it still shows Roman roots and style. Lucca's defensive walls are perfectly preserved and once you've entered you'll feel that you've returned to the past.

Also famous as it is the birthplace of composer Giacomo Puccini, you can even visit his home located in the center of town, which is open to visitors.

After Lucca, we will drive to the beautiful resort town of Forte dei Marmi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forte_dei_Marmi). Situated facing the southernmost part of the Ligurian Sea. Here you will have about 2 hours to enjoy this area, established as a highly desirable vacation destination for prominent families residing in northern Italy during the 18th and 19th centuries. The allure of the sea’s beauty continues to draw people to this seaside town today.

After this great excursion we'll drive back to the ship.

If we start our day at 8.00/8.30 am we will return to the ship by 5.00/5.30 pm.
