Travel back in time and discover the Italian Middle Ages with a private driver at your disposal for the day.

You will visit Civita di Bagnoregio, also known as "il paese che muore", the dying town. This medieval village, accessible by footbridge only, is located atop of a Tufa hill in a dramatic deep-cut valley, giving you the impression of visiting a Ghost town lost in time.

Please notice: moderate walking is involved, as this town is only accessible on foot.

Orvieto, another beautiful medieval town surrounded by a nostalgic atmosphere, will welcome you with its 3000 years of history. Step back into the Middle Ages as you enjoy a walk through its ancient passageways, stairs and hidden rooms all the while admiring its unrivalled panoramas.  Don’t forget a visit to the famous St. Patrick well!

We took the Joe Banana/ItalyToursharing Civita Di Bagnorgio and Orvieto tour as a shore excursion out of Civitavecchia on October 8, 2018. This was our third tour with Joe Banana and it was just as good as we had expected. The sign up process online is very easy, even if you don't have a group already formed. Our guide, Nuncio, picked us up at the dock on time, got us back in plenty of time, and was an excellent driver. He gave a good commentary about the sights as we were driving and gave us guidance about what to see in the two towns. There was a slight hitch about the lunch and wine tasting, but Nuncio got everything arranged properly while we were on the subterranean tour in Orvietto, and we were very happy with the results. If you've already done the Rome tour, I recommend this tour as a great way to see the countryside, visit two very interesting towns, and not be totally exhausted when you get back to the ship. But do wear sturdy shoes for the walk out to the old part of Civita di Bagnoregio. Have fun!

Daniel picked us up and was prompt. The limo was air conditioned and very comfortable. He was knowledgeable, courteous and well informed. We loved our tour of Oriveto and Civita de Bagnoregio. There is a well in Oriveto which requires a lot of climbing of stairs, so we passed on that and just people watched and enjoyed our time there. Civita de Bagnoregio is a beautiful little spot on a pinnacle that used to be connected to each other but time has eroded the bridgeway and there remains a wide path that one uses. Since I had twisted my ankle, walking was not an option for me so my husband and I ordered a glass of wine and waited for the rest of our party to return This tour was absolutely one of the best tours we took while in Italy.
