This private day tour will start with a chauffeured drive to the beautiful town of Civita di Bagnoregio. A very charming town, set on the top of a hill, Civita di Bagnoregio is accessible only by foot. As you cross the bridge which is the gateway, you will enter this town established 2500 years ago.
Built by the local Etruscan population, it is also called "the dying city" as the erosion caused by water has created steep slopes which make the village smaller and much more isolated than it was in the past. Similar to the Badlands located on South Dakota (U.S.A.), the main difference is this town is set on the top of its mountain and is surrounded by lush vegetation.
After you have visited the town on your own, we will continue on to Orvieto (approximately a 30 minute drive). Very popular for its church and the Saint Patrick well, you will have the opportunity to visit both. A licensed guide will take you to the subterranean Orvieto (tickets are an additional cost) and then you'll see the cathedral on your own. The cathedral is one of the best examples of Italian gothic style and holds within it a painting of the Judgement day, which inspired Michelangelo for the Sistine chapel.
Then a visit to the St. Patrick well, built in a unique way, to get the water for the city. People flocked to the location in the belief that it was the real St. Patrick, until a bishop disavowed it.
Optional (Additional cost): You'll be taken to a nice 'cantina' where you can experience the best wine tasting and light lunch of the city as well as the opportunity to visit the cellar.
We will then return to your accommodation in Rome.
